Professor Dr. Showkat Ali, Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), has threatened M K Pulak Ahmed, the university correspondent for Daily Janakantha and Bangla Edition, with a lawsuit. The incident occurred on December 17, 2025. The threat was issued when the journalist contacted the Vice-Chancellor via mobile phone to inquire about actions taken regarding allegations of recruitment fraud. In addition to the legal threat, the Vice-Chancellor reportedly intimidated him in various other ways.
