Two journalists were attacked by police while covering an anti-drug drive at Dhaka’s Sohrawardy Udyan on the evening of February 23, 2026. Tofael, a multimedia reporter for Banglanews24.com, was seriously injured in the assault. Kawsar Ahmed Ripon, a multimedia reporter for Ajker Patrika, was also attacked when he tried to rescue Tofael. Prior to the physical assault, police obstructed Tofael from recording video footage and attempted to snatch his mobile phone. Tofael is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
