Following its experimental broadcast on October 10, 2010, the private television channel Somoy TV officially began commercial operations on April 17, 2011. Currently, a major portion of the media outlet’s ownership and shares is held by City Group, one of the country’s leading conglomerates. Over time, the channel’s ownership structure and management control have been subject to legal processes and court proceedings, which have been documented in public media. Furthermore, as a private limited company under standard corporate frameworks, detailed financial statements regarding its internal revenue and expenditures are naturally limited in open sources or the public domain.

In our country, everyone tends to prioritize their own interests first. There is little sense of collective or national awareness. In this regard, Somoy TV is not solely responsible. However, that does not mean their accountability can be dismissed either.
The greater the audience a channel has, the greater its responsibility becomes. Somoy TV not only prioritizes its business interests but also treats the channel itself as a source of commercial revenue, advancing primarily through the pursuit of views on YouTube and Facebook.
Despite growing public frustration over such practices, the channel continues to ignore this discontent day after day.
