Saikat Ranjan Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Rangamati Journalists’ Union and the district correspondent for DBC News, was picked up by a team of plainclothes detective police. According to sources, he was taken into custody on August 11, 2026, at 2:35 PM from in front of the Rangamati Hill District Council office. Local police informed journalists that a central DB team arriving from Dhaka had detained him; however, they could not state the reason or cause behind the action.
