Nine DU Journalists Attacked by Chatra Dal at Shahbagh

In a shocking escalation of violence, nine campus correspondents from Dhaka University were brutally assaulted by activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) in front of the Shahbagh Police Station. The incident occurred on April 23, 2026, directly in front of the Shahbagh Police Station. The victims include Manjur Hossain Mahi (President, DUJA & Kaler Kantho), Litton Islam (General Secretary, DUJA & Agamir Somoy), Khalid Hasan (Office Secretary, DUJA & Desh Rupantor) and Naimur Rahman Imon (Treasurer, DUJA & Daily Observer). Other victims are Sourav Islam (Rising BD), Shamsuddhoza Nabob (Dhaka Tribune), Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain Sifat (Dhaka Mail), Harun Islam (Naya Diganta) and Asaduzzaman Khan (Manab Zamin). Among them, General Secretary Litton Islam and Reporter Sifat were seriously injured and are currently receiving hospital treatment.The information has been confirmed to Bangladesh Media Monitor by the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association.
