A group of employees at the Dhaka-based Bengali daily Janakantha, who were hired at different times following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, have declared the paper’s editor “persona non grata” and formed their own editorial board. This move came as a counter-action after the management terminated several staff members on August 2, 2025. In addition to the declaration, the agitating employees filed a case at Dhaka’s Hatirjheel Police Station against the management. The allegations are directed against Janakantha Editor and Publisher Shamima Khan, Globe Janakantha Shilpa Poribar’s COO Major (Retd.) Afizur Rahman, and Planning Advisor Zainal Abedin (Shishir), who is also the Joint Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), along with several other journalists.
