Journalist’s Home Invasion and Wife Assaulted in Sreepur

On July 20, 2026, the home of journalist Md. Wasim Akram was raided late at night in Gazipur’s Sreepur. The attack stemmed from a workplace dispute earlier that morning involving Akram’s wife and a coworker at Rafia Apparels Limited. At around 10:45 PM, a group including Afroza Akter, Al-Amin, and Amena Akter forcibly entered Akram’s residence, physically assaulting him and his wife. During the attack, Akram’s wife was battered, suffered a bite wound to her wrist, and had a gold chain worth approximately 110,000 BDT snatched from her neck. Local residents intervened, forcing the assailants to flee after issuing death threats. The victim received medical treatment at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, and Akram filed a formal complaint at Sreepur Model Police Station on July 21, where Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Alam confirmed an investigation is underway.
