A veteran journalist was abducted directly from a press club and brutally assaulted by a local criminal syndicate. The incident occurred in broad daylight on June 16, 2026, in Hajiganj, Chandpur. The victim, Mohiuddin Al Azad, a former president of the Hajiganj Press Club, district correspondent for Bangladesh News and Bangladeshi Khabor, and editor of the weekly Trinodi—was targeted in retaliation for his investigative reporting exposing illicit activities operating within local residential hotels. A group of thugs breached the press club’s perimeter, forcibly dragged Azad out, and confined him inside a hotel where he was subjected to severe physical battery.
