While gathering news regarding irregularities at a government college in Jhenaidah, Aritra Kumar Kundu, the district correspondent for the daily ‘Protidiner Bangladesh’ and his associate Habibur Rahman Rubel were subjected to a violent attack. Aritra Kundu’s father alleged that they were deliberately framed because of a previously published news report exposing local DB (Detective Branch) police involvement with narcotics. The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 26, 2026, on the premises of Jhenaidah Government Nurunnahar Women’s College. They were first beaten with rods inside the college. Later, around 11:00 AM, the two injured journalists were handcuffed and taken to the police station. A case of extortion was filed against them in the afternoon. Fearing that he ‘might be framed in a false case’, Aritra had also lodged a General Diary (GD) earlier this month.
