Allegations have been raised against Darus Salam Thana police for forcefully snatching the mobile phone of Fakhrul Islam, Head of Multimedia at the Daily Ittefaq and President of MRA, while he was gathering news during a footpath eviction drive in Mirpur. He also alleged that the police behaved rudely with him and pushed him around during the incident. The incident occurred on the night of October 28, 2026, in front of Delta Medical College in Mirpur.
Speaking to Bangladesh Media Monitor, Fakhrul said the officer-in-charge (OC) of Darus Salam Police Station contacted him later that night and apologised for the incident.
“The OC of Darus Salam Police Station contacted me last night, shortly after the incident. He expressed regret over what had happened and requested that I visit the police station to collect my phone,” he said.
Fakhrul added that he later went to the police station with several fellow journalists to retrieve his phone.
“The police member involved in the incident expressed remorse and pledged not to behave in such a manner towards any journalist in the future,” he said.
