On May 6, 2013, in the early hours of the morning, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), acting on government orders, shut down Islamic TV. A team from the Detective Branch police arrived and, citing ‘high level government instructions,’ ordered the temporary suspension of the channel’s broadcast. The Awami League government imposed the shutdown on allegations of incitement, rumor mongering, and irresponsible reporting.
