Police have detained Abu Jafar Surjo, former president of a faction of the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) at the GPO intersection in Gulistan, Dhaka. Simultaneously, police reported the detention of numerous leaders and activists of the banned party Awami League and its affiliate organizations from that same JaSoD office. He was detained at around 2:30 PM on September 26, 2026. Later, he was taken to Paltan Police Station in a police van. Meanwhile, a photo posted on Abu Jafar Surjo’s Facebook profile showing him handcuffed claimed that he was detained while performing his professional duties.
