Hafizur Rahman (H R Shafiq), Special Correspondent for the national daily Daily Dhaka Protidin, was arrested under the controversial Cyber Security Act. The midnight raid was conducted on July 21, 2026, in the Moghbazar area of the capital by a specialized unit from the Shahbagh Police Station, led by Sub-Inspector Ziaul. The detention comes immediately after Shafiq authored a series of explosive investigative reports exposing high-level corruption and syndicate operations within the Fire Service and Civil Defense Directorate. Following the publication of the exposes, a criminal complaint was swiftly registered against the journalist at Shahbagh Police Station.
