Jiten Barua, the Khagrachhari district correspondent for the national news agency BSS and Somoy TV, was arrested by the police. The arrest took place around 7:00 PM on May 7, 2026, at the Shapla Chattar area. According to Md. Kislu, the Officer-in-Charge of Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station, Barua is an accused in five separate General Register (GR) cases filed during the period of the interim government.
