On May 19, 2026, Mahfuzur Rahman Shuvo, a reporter for Banglavision, and his camera team were assaulted and held hostage by officials at the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) headquarters in Dhaka. The team was recording a special broadcast detailing a proposed 29% increase in electricity rates alongside energy expert Dr. M. Shamsul Alam when BREB staff aggressively intercepted the interview. Officials physically struck Shuvo, shoved him away, and blocked camera operator R.I. Babul from filming. The media team was subsequently held hostage inside the precinct for nearly half an hour before being forced off the premises.
