Shabin Shahriar Meem, the Rangpur district correspondent for the private television channel ATN News and founder-publisher of the local portal DRB News, was subjected to severe death threats. The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 2, 2026, while the 28-year-old journalist was working at the ATN News district bureau office. Meem received a phone call from an unidentified mobile number, during which the caller unleashed an unprovoked tirade of obscene verbal abuse lasting nearly six minutes, culminating in explicit threats to his life. Following the harrowing incident, Meem lodged a formal General Diary (GD) with the Kotwali Police Station under the Rangpur Metropolitan Police later that night.
