A General Observation on the Coverage in South Asian Regional Media of the Visit of the Chief of India’s Intelligence Agency, R&AW, to Dhaka

It is only natural that Indian media outlets would report on the visit of the chief of India’s intelligence agency, R&AW, to Dhaka. However, there has been no significant coverage of the visit in the Pakistan media outlets.

Regionally, both Indian and Pakistan media outlets have their own distinct interests, perspectives, approaches, and news angles when it comes to various domestic issues in Bangladesh.

For example, a visit to Dhaka by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, or any Islamabad-related development in Dhaka, would be considered a highly significant issue by the Indian media outlets. It could even become a sensational story. In particular, such an issue could be portrayed by the Indian media outlets as a major matter of national security for India.

Similarly, a visit to Dhaka by an Indian intelligence agency R&AW, or any Delhi-related development there, would also be considered a highly significant issue in Pakistan.

However, so far, Pakistan media outlets have not given much coverage to either Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s meeting today with the Indian ambassador or the meeting between India’s intelligence agency R&AW chief and the Prime Minister’s Chief of Defence.

One of the Pakistan’s major mainstream media outlets, Geo News, has published a report on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s meeting with the ambassador and on Bangladesh-India relations.

Beyond that, however, the Pakistan media outlets has not treated the developments as an exceptionally important or explosive issue.
