On May 6, 2026, a defamation lawsuit seeking 100 crore BDT in damages was filed against Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, Senior Reporter Riadul Karim, and Habiganj Correspondent Hafizur Rahman Nion. The case was lodged in a Habiganj court by Syed Humayun Kabir, Executive Director of the NGO People’s Assistant for Social Advancement (PASA).
The litigation stems from an investigative report published in February titled, “One-man dependent ‘PASA’ providing 10,000 election observers,” along with subsequent follow-up pieces. The plaintiff claims these reports were defamatory and harmed the organization’s reputation. Senior Judicial Magistrate Tanjina Rahman Tanin has directed the District Detective Branch (DB) to investigate the allegations and submit a report.
