On August 5, 2024, in Baniachang, Habiganj, students and people from different walks of life joined a procession as part of the anti-quota movement starting from 10 a.m. Clashes broke out between police and protesters around the procession. While filming the police attack on the demonstrators in front of Baniachang Police Station, journalist Sohel Akhanji was shot and killed.
