Court Orders Freeze of Seven Bank Accounts Linked to Independent Television Editor

A court has ordered the freezing of seven bank accounts held in the names of M Shamsur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer and Editor of Independent Television Limited and individuals or entities associated with his interests.

The order was issued on 2 November 2026 by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Shahjahan Kabir following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Tariqul Islam, the ACC’s lawyer, confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo. He said that ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Zainal Abedin had filed the application on Sunday.

According to the application, allegations have been raised against Salman F Rahman, chairman of Beximco Group and former adviser to the ousted Prime Minister on private industry and investment, and others over alleged manipulation of placement shares and fraud involving the misappropriation of thousands of crores of taka from shareholders.

The application also refers to allegations that they used undue influence to obtain loans amounting to approximately Tk 36,000 crore from various public and private banks in Bangladesh, which were allegedly misappropriated and transferred abroad.

Subsequently, allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income and transferring money abroad were also brought against Shamsur Rahman. During its inquiry, the ACC reportedly obtained information about bank accounts held in his name.

The application further stated that, according to a reliable source, attempts were being made to transfer, move or convert funds held in these bank accounts. In view of these circumstances, the ACC argued that freezing the bank accounts of Shamsur Rahman and those associated with his interests was necessary to ensure a proper investigation and the interests of justice.
