Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir has alleged that some journalists report the police as ineffective because they fail to receive money in connection with law enforcement operations against drug trafficking.
He made the allegation on October 26, 2026, while speaking at the official inauguration of Islamic banking services at Community Bank in Chawkbazar.
“ You are not taking action against drugs and are secretly taking money from them. When journalists fail to get money from there, they write that the police have become ineffective in this country. Why?” the IGP said.
Following the remarks, Police Headquarters issued a clarification.
In a press release, Police Headquarters said the IGP had not intended to make a sweeping comment about journalists and that his remarks were made inadvertently.
