On the afternoon of September 27, 2026, an altercation took place between the mother of Md. Abul Hossain, Pakundia upazila correspondent for the Daily Somoyero Alo newspaper, and the mother of his uncle, Masum Mia, over a family matter. Under the pretext of resolving the issue, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station, Md. Ariful Islam, called Abul Hossain to the police station a short while later. Upon his arrival at the station, the OC detained him after accusing him of being an Awami League leader. That very day, Abul Hossain was hastily named as an accused in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act at Pakundia Police Station on September 13, 2024, against Awami League leaders and activists, and was subsequently sent to prison.
