Two Reporters Assaulted Over Orphanage Corruption News

Two journalists were assaulted in Sonaimuri, Noakhali, following the publication of a news report regarding allegations of corruption at an orphanage. Allegations have also emerged that despite filing a written complaint at the police station, the police are not recording the case. Journalist Mohammad Hanif published two reports in local and national daily newspapers alleging corruption involving government allocations for orphans at the Sonaimuri Foyezia Orphanage Madrasa. Following the publication of the news, Shafiqur Rahman, the principal (Muhtamim) of the orphanage, called journalists Mohammad Hanif and Moniruzzaman under the pretext of holding discussions on September 18, 2026. Once there, Shafiqur and his associates physically assaulted and injured them.
