An incident of physical assault targeting Omar Ali Sohag, the correspondent for The Daily Star, took place in Jhenaidah while he was gathering news at an event attended by the Law Minister. Allegations have been raised that local Chhatra Dal activists physically assaulted him. During the attack, he was also issued death threats. Seeking security for his life, journalist Sohag lodged a General Diary (GD) at Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station regarding the incident. The event occurred on August 29, 2026, around 12:30 PM, in front of the Muktomoncho at the Old DC Court premises in Jhenaidah town, during a reception program for meritorious students of Jhenaidah Collectorate School and College. The Member of Parliament for Jhenaidah-1 and Law Minister, Md. Asaduzzaman, was present as the chief guest at the function.
