On successive days starting June 8, 2026, poet and local journalist Sabuj Hossain was subjected to physical violence and a targeted abduction attempt in Barura, Comilla. The initial incident occurred on Monday while Hossain was gathering information at the Adda cattle market. An individual identified as Faruk Hossain from Paschim Adda village intercepted the journalist and forcibly dragged him 200 yards away to Momin Market in an attempt to kidnap him, which was ultimately thwarted by local bystanders. The following day, Faruk intercepted and physically assaulted Hossain again in Adda Bazar until market crowds intervened, forcing the assailant to flee. Local senior journalists have strongly condemned the targeted actions and are currently processing a formal criminal case against the perpetrator.
