A local man named Md. Iqbal issued death threats, abusive slurs, and defamatory remarks against two journalists following a news report on drug-related allegations in Begumganj, Noakhali. Iqbal, brother of Jamal Uddin (also known as Sudi Khokon), allegedly pressured a senior reporter from Dainik Sorejomin over the phone to remove the report before threatening his life. When the news was syndicated by an online news portal, Iqbal repeatedly called its editor and publisher, Sarjid Ahmed Opu, via phone and WhatsApp, threatening “game on” (khela hobe) if the story was not taken down. Additionally, multiple fake social media accounts linked to Iqbal were used to launch smear campaigns labeling the reporters “hired journalists.” The victims filed a General Diary (GD) with the local police station, and law enforcement confirmed an ongoing investigation.
