On July 15, 2026, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on four journalists outside a tea stall near the United Nations Children’s Park in Khulna. The targeted reporters were Raqibul Islam Moti (SA TV Bureau Chief), Awal Sheikh (The Business Standard), Rafiul Islam Tutul (Star TV Bureau Chief), and Syed Rana Kabir (Daily Amader Shomoy). The bullets hit a nearby chair, and ricocheting splinters slightly injured Awal Sheikh. In response, the Metropolitan Journalists Union organized a demonstration on August 5 in front of the Khulna Press Club, demanding the immediate arrest of the attackers. Khulna Sadar Police and KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahid Hassan confirmed that bullet evidence was recovered and CCTV footage is under review to identify the perpetrators.
