Kalbela Reporter Assaulted by Local Journalists in Kulaura

Rumel Ahmed, a Mobile Journalist (MoJo) for the national daily Daily Kalbela, was physically assaulted by a group of local journalists in Moulvibazar. The incident took place on the afternoon of June 26, 2026, at Amtala Bazar in Kulaura Upazila.

Ahmed had traveled from Dhaka to cover an event organized by the National Congress Party (NCP), where several district-level reporters were also present. A dispute arose when local journalists demanded Ahmed vacate his vantage point, which he refused. In retaliation, the local press corps harassed him at the venue.

Later, in a calculated move, Shahban Rashid Chowdhury Oni of DBC News isolated Ahmed by calling him over to Amtala Bazar, where a group of journalists, including representatives from Channel One, News24, Manabzamin, and Daily Jonobani subjected him to a coordinated physical assault.
