In a direct attack on election reporting, Shahnawaz Riton, Chattogram Bureau Chief for Channel One, and camera person Amit Das were assaulted by BNP-backed lawyers on May 21, 2026. The incident occurred at 2:00 PM inside the Auditorium of the Lawyers’ Annex Building during the Chattogram District Bar Association elections. Suspecting that the Channel One team was highlighting this unilateral voting process, a group of 8–10 BNP-affiliated lawyers confronted the journalists, physically assaulted them, labeled them partisan operatives, and expelled them from the polling center.
