Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has been accused of involvement in the simultaneous termination of five media personnel from Somoy TV. Allegations suggest that on December 18, 2024, Hasnat Abdullah, accompanied by several others, met with the Managing Director of City Group (the investor in Somoy TV) and pressured him to dismiss 10 individuals from a provided list. When five people from that list were asked to resign, they refused, leading the company to send their termination letters via WhatsApp that same day. While Hasnat Abdullah admitted to visiting City Group, he denied the allegations of intimidation or providing any list. The terminated employees are Chief Input Editor Omar Faruk, journalist Md. Ariful Sajjad, Digital Head Kamal Shahriar, Associate Special Correspondent Debashis Roy and Senior Reporter Bulbul Raza.
