Shakil Ahmed, the former Head of News, and Farzana Rupa, the former Principal Correspondent and Presenter of Ekattor TV, were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained them on August 21, 2024. The couple was en route to Paris via Istanbul on a Turkish Airlines flight and had initially received clearance from multiple intelligence agencies and immigration authorities. However, a DB team arrived and stated that a case had been filed against them at a city police station. They were subsequently taken into custody for questioning, while their daughter was with them at the time. Earlier, on August 8, Ekattor TV had officially terminated their employment following a management decision.
