ACC Files Corruption Case Against Anis Alamgir

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against journalist Anis Alamgir, who is already detained under the Anti-Terrorism Act, on charges of ‘acquiring illegal wealth and money laundering.’ The case was filed on January 15, 2026. According to the ACC investigation, while his total assets exceed 4.25 crore BDT, his legal and acceptable income accounts for only about 99 lakh BDT. Consequently, the ACC claims that approximately 77% of his wealth is ‘inconsistent with his known sources of income.’ This case comes at a time when he was already in custody and was a central figure of discussion for his political views shared on television talk shows and social media.
