An attempt was made on the life of journalist Tarek Mahmud while he was returning home in Laxmipur. The attack took place on January 9, 2026 (Ref: 2025 in text), around 11:30 AM in front of the Fisheries Office in Ward No. 4 of the municipal town. Police have announced the arrest of two individuals, Shahin and Kiron, in connection with the incident. The injured Tarek Mahmud works as a multimedia reporter for Daily Naya Diganta, a staff reporter for the local online portal Laxmipur Times, and a camera person for Jamuna TV.
